Retamas in Peru’s La Libertad region was the victim of a landslide. There were at least seven missing people and more than 60 graves.
The RPP station was confirmed by Lieutenant Carlos Alberto Valderrama (Retamas Commissioner), that the emergency teams were present at the RPP station. They have saved four people, and three of those who disappeared are minors.
Retamas citizens have reported to the station that they are not receiving enough support for rescue operations and that relatives of the deceased “risk their lives” in order to help them.
Manuel Llempen the governor of the area, however, pointed out that Earth covers between 60-80 housesA situation in which the National Defense Institute and the National Civil Defense Institute were summoned for monitoring the emergency response.
The president of Peru, Pedro Castillo has stated that support will be given to the victims of the disaster and that representatives of INDECI as well as the Ministry of Defense will travel to the region.
For his part, the Defense Minister, José Gavidia, has confirmed that he is heading towards Retamas together with a rapid response team from INDECI. He said, “We will provide all of the necessary assistance to the affected families.”
