After hearing the appeal against the December 2017 sentence which annulled his controversial humanitarian pardon, the Constitutional Court of Peru granted Alberto Fujimori freedom on Thursday
JudgeAugusto Ferrero asserted his quality voting to end the three-way tie during the voting, reports the newspaper ‘La República’. Fujimori is currently serving 25 years for crimes against humanity in connection to the Barrios Altos and La Cantuta massacres.
Fujimori received a humanitarian pardon in December 2017 from former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to help him in his fragile state of health. This was an attempt to avoid votes of Fuerza Popular during the motion of censure against him for corruption.
The Supreme Court of Peru annulled the pardon in October 2018 after he was captured based on the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.Barrios Altos massacres and La Cantuta massacresThere is no humanitarian pardon for them as they are crimes against humanity.
