Emmanuel Macron is looking for Russia gets new sanctionsAfter the discovery of the Bucha massacre, On Monday morning, France Inter radio reported that “there are very clear indicators of war crimes” in Bucha. It is also “almost established” that it was the Russian Army that was there. “I am in favor of a new train of sanctions” and “particularly with coal and oil we have to act”.

French President has stressed thatEuropean concertation is sought and that it will start with Germany. He said that he believed there should be sanctions to dissuade Bucha from what had happened. When asked if Vladimir Putin would be required to answer the court regarding what happened in Bucha, he said that “the scenes were unsustainable” and that there are “very clear indications that war crimes occurred”. He also stressed that the Russian Army was responsible for those massacres.

Macron indicated that Paris would assist the Ukrainian authoritiesIn the investigation of the events there, several hundred people are likely to have been executed as a result of the withdrawal by Russian troops. It is this international justice that will be required. “Those at the root of these crimes will be held accountable.” He did not want to answer questions about the Russian president but reiterated that Bucha was under the control of the Russian Army and that there would be no peace without justice.

Macron’s important nuance was the gas.The President did not expressly mention the decision to stop buying Russian gas.. The EU is especially dependent on Russian gas, in particular Germany and the countries along its eastern flank. A disruption in the supply of this gas could cause serious problems for its replacement next winter with gas from other sources.
