Berlin is the Second largest weapon supplier to Ukraine currentlyChristine Lambrecht, German Defense Minister was critical of criticism that her country did not deliver enough weapons to kyiv on Tuesday.

Lambrechts stated that Germany had become the second-largest arms supplier to Ukraine at an Atlantic Council event in Washington. He did not give details.

According to the draft text of a speech that he was due to deliver at Washington’s Atlantic Council think tank, he stated that Germany would achieve NATO’s planning objectives sooner than expected.

“We will have the planned division of the army ready for combat in 2025, two years in advance.”

Berlin had originally planned to have one combat-ready Division in 2027, and three in 2032.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has promised to inject 100 million euros into the Bundeswehr in a major change in policy for the country, following decades of attrition.

The money will be used to increase the readiness and capabilities of the German army. It will primarily be used for the purchase of weapons and equipment that troops do not have.

Three days after the invasion, Berlin announced that it would purchase F-35 fighter planes from the United States. It also stated that it will purchase a missile defense system. Scholz also stated that Germany would significantly increase its defense spending, to more than 2 percent of its economic output.
