This Thursday, April 7, the Studio des Ursulines in Paris will host a special evening screening in their presence of five films selected by Festival Format Court. This is a great chance to discover nuggets from very different backgrounds and imaginations and meet the talent of tomorrow.
It is important to support the short film soldier. It is something that many French festivals do each year. Format Court and the website are two of them.
The third edition was sponsored by Swann, an actor, and featured the author of these lines alongside the members of the media jury. Five films were selected by her for broadcasting this Thursday, April 7, as part of a special evening at Studio des Ursulines in Paris.e arrondissement. Five films from very different horizons and imaginations. They are witnesses to the creativeness of a format that is often reduced to a springboard for feature films, when it can be the setting to great works.
You can take, for instance: « Maelbeek » by Ismaël Joffroy Chandoutis, press prize – also crowned last February with the César for best documentary short film – on a survivor of the 2016 attack at the Maalbeek metro station, in Brussels, Belgium. A stunning work about memory, collective dramas, and individual traumas is created when the images of a very violent reality are combined with an unusual and disturbing graphic universe. Chris Marker’s film is an example of a film which invents its own form.
More classic ” departure “ by Saïd Hamich follows little Adil, 11, who, in his Moroccan port village, attends the return from France of his father and his older brother for the holidays. The child, who is solar and carefree, is attracted to the idea of leaving his mother in order to travel with the men of their family to the other side. He hopes for a better future. Director takes an interest and films at the level children to portray Maghrebian immigration. Even traces of Italian Neorealism are evident in his staging. His young actor Ayman Rachdane won an interpretation prize.
A completely different register: We strongly recommend the Brazilian and extremely fun “Sidereal”The prize for screenplay of the young jury, we won’t reveal too much so that you don’t spoil the fun. Let’s just mention that the director of this ballet, Carlos Segundo, orchestrates an emblemoclastic ballet in a Nordeste family’s heart on the day the first Brazilian rocket for orbit launches.
Cartoon fans will love this part. « Hold Me Tight » by Léo Robert-Tourneur, prize for sound creation, for his symbolism and his poetry of forms.
See you this Thursday, at the Parisian cinema Studio des Ursulines, at 8 p.m., to stock up on new creations and meet some of the talents of tomorrow – most of the directors will be present.
