Ukrenergo is the head of Ukraine’s state power grid operator. He stated that Chernobyl’s nuclear power plant relied upon electricity generated from diesel generators, after receiving external power supplies. It would be again damaged.

Volodymyr Kudrytskiy of Ukrenergo stated that the same reason caused Slavutych to lose power.

According to the Ukrainian state power company, the power line that supplies the Chernobyl site for the 1986 nuclear disaster is now unaffected. After being repaired, it was damaged again by the Russian forces.

According to Ukrenergo, the company stated in a Monday statement that its technicians had begun supplying power Sunday night. “before the power supply was fully restored, the occupation forces damaged it again”. Ukrenergo indicated that he will attempt another repair.

Chernobyl also has diesel generators. Last week, Belarusian authorities stated that they had set up an emergency power supply at the border.

International Atomic Energy Agency downplays the safety of nuclear waste from Chernobyl. It says that cooling ponds can keep spent fuel safe no matter what power is lost.
