The suspect was arrested in CaliforniaHe had the plastic bags in his jacket pocket, his pants pockets, and his crotch.. CBP reported that a US citizen aged 30 driving a truck arrived at San Ysidro’s port of entry (California) on February 25, 2013.
CBP agents located several plastic bags that contained live animals in the driver’s vehicle during an inspection. These were 43 hornedlizards (Phrynosoma).– Also known as “weepsblood”– and nine snakes.
The horned lizardThey are known for their oval-shaped, flattened bodies and rows of horn-like spines along their heads. They range from southern Canada all the way to Guatemala.
“In this case, the smugglerTried to deceive CBP agents to introduce these animals into the United States without regard for the health and safety of the animals,” he added.
The suspect smuggler was taken into custodyCBP stated that the reptiles were still in quarantine while they awaited processing.
